Two Day Immersion into Basketry Workshop

Choose from the large laundry basket or smaller, companion sock basket.  Techniques are identical for both baskets, so you won’t lose out by choosing one size over the other.

Dimensions:

Sock basket:  14 inches in diameter and 12 inches high.Laundry Basket Basket

Laundry Basket:  19 inches in diameter and 12 inches high.

Combine ultra-sturdy materials and interesting basketry techniques and you have a workhorse of a basket that will serve you for decades.

Begin by twining two layers of ½ inch flat/oval spokes for strength, then continue up the sides with 3/8 flat oval weavers.  Finished with hand carved bushel basket handles and an eye-catching four rod wale rim.

All class materials are included along with a pattern by the designer,  Sharon McElroy of DeWitt,  MI.

*Intermediate level class for adults.  Previous basket weaving experience is required.*

Instructor bio: Dianne Mockler is a basket weaver and fiber artist who began weaving in 1996 and soon after shared her enthusiasm for the craft by teaching others to weave. She enjoys working with a variety of materials, and is especially interested in weaving baskets with a Northwoods theme, or natural materials such as birch bark, willow, pine needles and antlers. Her great great grandfather owned a knitting mill in Milwaukee in the late 19th century; she believes she is honoring her heritage by incorporating wool and other fibers into baskets, as well as using wet felting and needle felting techniques to create basket embellishments.
