Witches’ Bells Workshop: Craft Your Own Protective Door Charm
Add a touch of enchantment to your home with a handmade set of **Witches’ Bells**. In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a beautiful decorative bell charm traditionally hung near doorways and entryways. In modern witchcraft and folk magic traditions, witches’ bells are often used as protective charms, with their gentle ringing believed to help clear stagnant energy and welcome positive intentions into a space.
Students will learn how to design and assemble their own unique set of witches’ bells using bells, ribbon, twine, charms, beads, and seasonal embellishments. Back by popular demand, we are again hosting a “garden stake” stained glass class taught by local artist Patty Valoe. This 2-day class focuses on the “Tiffany” approach to stained glass. This class involves cutting glass, grinding, and soldering. You will be provided with sample patterns and will be able to choose from a variety of opalescent, transparent, and textured glass in a variety of colors to create your masterpiece.

Learn traditional basket weaving at a relaxed pace while creating a functional market basket. In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn how to lay out a base, weave the sides using start-and-stop weaving, add decorative triple twining with dyed round reed, then finish the basket by rimming and lashing. Several color choices will be available. A coordinating mini wreath embellishment is included in the class Dianne will guide you step by step, and you’ll leave with a medium-sized market basket ready for the farmer’s market—or wherever life takes you. The class fee includes all materials and use of the instructor’s tools.

Materials needed: Please bring a dishpan or bucket, an old towel, and a lunch. Wear clothes that can get a little wet.

Fall is the most glorious time of year in the Northwoods. The landscape comes alive with color, creating a spectacular contrast against the sky, water, trees, and surrounding landscape.
On October 19–20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., join Dale L. Popovich for a two-day watercolor workshop presented by LOLA Arts, where we’ll explore the extraordinary color relationships found in autumn and learn how to translate that brilliance into watercolor.
Painting autumn is about more than putting beautiful colors onto paper. It is about understanding how colors interact with one another, how they reflect throughout the landscape, and how temperature, intensity, and value work together to create a unified painting.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on paint-alongs, you’ll discover how the colors of autumn influence everything around them. Warm foliage can reflect into the landscape, influence surrounding colors, and create subtle relationships that bring the entire painting together. These connections help tell the story of the season and create paintings that feel cohesive rather than simply colorful.
We’ll explore:
Understanding autumn color: Learning how warm and cool colors interact and how colors can appear to change depending on what surrounds them.
Color relationships: Discovering how autumn colors contrast against one another while still working together as a unified palette.
Reflected color: Understanding how the brilliant colors of fall can influence and reflect throughout the landscape.
Temperature, intensity, and value: Learning how these three elements work together to create depth, atmosphere, and visual interest.
A simple color palette: Discovering how a limited selection of colors can create an exciting range of autumn hues without requiring a large collection of paints.
Color mixing: Learning how to mix colors in a simple, intentional way and developing an understanding of what those mixtures will look like when they dry.
Brushwork and paint handling: Exploring wet-into-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brushing, and brush manipulation to create a variety of textures and effects.
Simplifying the landscape: Learning to see the larger color and value patterns instead of becoming lost in the countless details of an autumn scene.

When winter arrives in the Northwoods, the landscape is transformed. A blanket of snow
softens the familiar, quiets the colors, and creates an entirely new world to paint.
On December 7–8, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., join Dale L. Popovich for a two-day
watercolor workshop presented by LOLA Arts, where we’ll explore the beauty of the winter
Northwoods and learn how to capture its unique atmosphere in watercolor.
Winter landscapes require a different way of seeing. Snow has a color temperature and
identity all its own. Rather than simply painting it white, you’ll learn how to use cooler
colors, subtle temperature shifts, softer values, and controlled contrast to create the
feeling of snow, light, and distance.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on painting, you’ll explore how to balance the
softness of snow against the strong, unmistakable structure of the winter forest. We’ll pay
close attention to the delicate edges of snow against the harshness of tree trunks, the
weight of snow-laden pine branches, and the way snow clings to the bark and shapes of
the trees.
We’ll explore:
The color of snow: Understanding that snow is never simply white and learning how cool
and warm colors create its temperature identity.
Creating distance: Using cool colors, value relationships, and atmospheric perspective to
make the snowy landscape recede naturally.
Softness and edges: Learning where edges should disappear into the snow and where they
need to remain crisp against the structure of the forest.
Light and shadow: Understanding how subtle shifts in value and temperature describe the
form and volume of snow.
Snow against the forest: Creating convincing contrast between soft, snow-covered forms
and the stronger shapes and textures of trees, branches, and bark.
Simplification: Reducing the complexity of a winter landscape into strong, beautiful shapes
and patterns without losing its sense of place.
