During this self-paced class, you will have the opportunity to create two paintings. On each piece of wood, Sue has wood-burned the outline of the designs— crappie and bluegill.

Beginner Watercolor Class – Nest full of Surprises

Your adventure will begin as you loosely toss pigment on your paper to start the nest building process. Eggs will be lifted, and finishing details will be added. Each nest will be uniquely different. No pattern needed as you work on an 11” x 15” piece of Arches cold press paper. Professional grade paint and all supplies used during class is included in the class fee. Jewel Metal Poetry with Mavis Farr

Discover the art of telling your story in metal. In Metal Poetry with Mavis, you’ll learn how to design and hand-stamp meaningful words and textures into brass and copper to create one-of-a-kind charms and pendants.
Starting with sheet metal and discs, students will shape, file, stamp, and texture their pieces while learning proper tool use and layout techniques. You’ll explore how to align letters, create word tabs, add decorative textures, and assemble finished charms using jump rings and findings.
This hands-on workshop is welcoming to all skill levels and emphasizes creativity, experimentation, and personal expression.
Materials needed: Each student will have enough materials to create up to 6 charms or pendants.
Additional materials will be available for purchase on the day of the workshop.
Earringpalooza – Upstairs with Mavis Farr

Learn the fundamentals of wire jewelry while creating stylish, ready-to-wear earrings. This 2-hour workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate students interested in earring and charm making.
Students will complete three pairs of earrings while learning:
Basic and wrapped wire loops
Headpin creation
Bead selection and proportion
Proper use of jewelry tools and pliers
Materials needed: The instructor provides all in-class tools and materials, including sterling, brass, and copper wire, assorted beads, and earring findings. Students are welcome to bring their own beads if desired.
Additional material kits will be available for purchase for those who wish to continue creating at home.
Stained Glass Garden Stake

Back by popular demand, we are again hosting a “garden stake” stained glass class taught by local artist Patty Valoe. This 2-day class focuses on the “Tiffany” approach to stained glass. It is encouraged that participants have some past experience working with stained glass. This class involves cutting glass, grinding, and soldering. You will be provided with sample patterns and will be able to choose from a variety of opalescent, transparent, and textured glass in a variety of colors to create your masterpiece.
Materials needed: Please bring protective gloves (cloth) and a lunch/drink. Protective eyewear & masks will be provided.
Green Wood Bowl Carving with Erik Vevang – Upstairs

Ages 16 and Up
2 Day Class with 1 hour break in the middle of each session
Create your very own small bowl using traditional green wood carving techniques.
During class the we will use gouges and hook knives to hollow out a small bowl of green wood. After removing the interior we will use axes, drawknives and carving knives to trim material off the outside and make our finish cuts. Blocks of green wood will be provided for you to layout and carve your bowls. These bowls will be about 6-8 inches in diameter and about 4 inches tall. Topics we will cover include knife and axe safety and techniques, bowl design and layout, how to properly dry your bowl and ways to clamp and hold you bowls as you work.
Introduction to Spoon Carving with Erik Vevang – Upstairs

Join us for a 3 hour introduction to the craft of greenwood spoon carving. You will finish the class with your own hand carved serving spoon. For the first part of class we will study safety, knife grips and traditional techniques for carving. During the rest of the class you will apply what you have learned to transform a spoon blank provided into your completed spoon.
Materials needed: All tools and supples provided. Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting full of wood chips and closed toed shoes.

Lisa Krueger will lead you through this painting, “Sunny Sunflower Standing Tall,” in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Professional grade pastels consisting of NuPastels, Rembrandt, & Sennelier along with an 11” x 14” piece of Crescent suede matboard will be used. The suede matboard gives your painting a soft look. Painting with pastels is very forgiving as you are able to layer until the desired look is achieved.

LOLA Arts is honored to present a special evening of poetry featuring Denise “Dee” Sweet, former Poet Laureate of Wisconsin and current Poet Laureate of the city of Bayfield.
Denise “Dee” Sweet (Anishinaabe, White Earth) is an acclaimed poet, educator, and community organizer whose work spans decades of literary and cultural contribution. A faculty emerita of the University of Wisconsin System, Sweet taught Humanistic Studies, Creative Writing, and First Nations Studies from 1985 to 2010. In addition to her literary career, Sweet works as a memory care advocate and coordinator, supporting elders living with memory loss.
