Basic Watercolor Technique Bootcamp 2 - Dr. Donna - August 2025 (1)

Watercolor Bootcamp 2

Tuesday, August 5, 2025

Continue your watercolor journey by diving deeper into the art of combining techniques. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll review and apply watercolor painting methods to create dynamic, multi-layered compositions. Together, we’ll revisit and create technique “recipe cards,” explore inspiring artist examples, and deconstruct how multiple techniques interact in compelling ways. You’ll then experiment independently, blending your favorite approaches to craft one or two finished 7″x10″ (or similar-sized) pieces. You will leave class with a greater confidence and a deeper understanding of how to create cohesive watercolor works using multiple techniques. All supplies are provided.

You will choose your own color palette and enjoy painting in an encouraging environment. All materials are provided.

Loon on Toned Paper Class - August 2025

Loon Drawing on Toned Paper

Thursday, August 7, 2025

Join Dr. Donna Murray-Tiedge on a technical and creative journey of learning how to draw with confidence and precision in realistic representation by using the grid method (a time-tested technique utilized by master artists, including Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh) on toned paper featuring an iconic Northwoods subject. Drawing on toned paper simplifies the mechanics of drawing realistically because the paper color provides the mid-tones of the value scale (from the darkest blacks to the lightest whites, with varying shades of gray in between). Working from the middle of the value scale and gradually building light and dark tones encourages subtle transitions in a full range of value, which is essential for any level of realism.

Less is More: Discover the Power of a Limited Palette in Watercolor

2-Day Workshop
August 19 & 20, 2025
10am – 4pm, Each Day

Under the guidance of local watercolor artist Dale Popovich, this workshop provides students with the opportunity to learn the Zorn palette technique. Anders Zorn, the Swedish master, built a lifetime of luminous paintings on the simplest palettes. A handful of skillfully wielded colors can capture the full breadth of light, form, and atmosphere. Limiting your pigments refines your eye, strengthens your compositions, and deepens your understanding of color relationships. This two-day workshop is a study in restraint—where less becomes infinitely more.
