NEW Art Group: Art Journaling

We’re excited to introduce a new art group: Art Journaling! This group is all about the creative process—blending color, words, and images on the page in your unique style. It’s an opportunity to experiment, explore new ideas, and express yourself, with an emphasis on the journey over the finished product.

Art Journaling - June 2025

LOLA Arts and the Land O’ Lakes Public Library are delighted to welcome all to join a free, fun, and supportive drop-in art journaling group, led by Artistree Gallery artist Ruth Wegehaupt. This newly established art group will resuming meeting  Wednesdays in June, 12pm-2pm, at the Land O’ Lakes Public Library. Enjoy exploring your creativity in a welcoming and relaxing space where you can delve into your thoughts and emotions through art, without judgment or pressure. Come for one session or join us for all!

For Ruth, art journaling is an innovative and introspective process that serves as a chronicle of personal reflection and can be a powerful catalyst and conduit for creativity. Ruth believes that this form of artistic expression is especially beneficial for mental wellness, as the emphasis of creativity is on the journey of expression, possibility, and progress rather than a finished result. Art journaling is open to all – no experience is necessary.

All you need is a blank journal with sturdy pages or even an old book ready for a creative transformation. Bring along any inspiring materials (for example: scraps of paper, lace, fabric, photos, magazines, crayons, paints, or stamps). LOLA Arts will also provide some supplies for you to use. Whether you are processing something profound or simply enjoying a moment of creativity, art journaling offers a safe, no-rules environment to explore whatever is on your mind. This is an opportunity to experiment and express yourself. Connect with others and discover the joy of filling your pages with whatever inspires you! See you there!

Ruth Wegehaupt

Ruth came to art later in life, after exploring various careers, some related to art and others not. She taught secondary language arts and visual media, often combining art with writing and media literacy. After retiring, she began to embrace her identity as an artist, working in jewelry, encaustic, and mixed media. Art journaling is part of her daily routine, serving as a tool for personal reflection and creativity. Ruth uses art as a form of healing, helping others, especially victims of trauma, express themselves through workshops. A former member of ArtWorks Gallery in Aberdeen, SD, she has taught various art techniques, including jewelry making, encaustic painting, and art journaling.
