Come spend the morning plein air painting (painting outdoors) and learning about the health of shorelines. This event is co-sponsored by Watersmeet Lakeguards (ISCCW) and Iron County Lakes and Streams Partnership in conjunction with Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA).
Enjoy the beautiful Sunset Lake Park in Iron River with a morning full of plein air oil painting and shoreline education and discussion. Beginners welcome (and encouraged!) All supplies and tools will be included, though participants should wear clothes to paint in or a smock, bring a lawn chair if you’d prefer to sit, water bottle, and sunscreen/bug spray if needed (whatever you need to spend a few hours outside) . McCall, from LOLA will be leading participants through steps of painting, using water-based oil paints, and Michelle, from ISCCW will be sharing educational material about the importance of healthy shorelines to the group while they paint.
Bathrooms will be available at the Pavillon or campgrounds.
Instructors’ Bios
Michelle Kanipes
Michelle is the new ISCCW community educator. She has served as Principal, Curriculum and Instruction Director, and Athletic Director for the Washington Island School District in Door County, Wisconsin; she was the Principal in Ironwood, Michigan as well as the Dean of Students, Athletic/Activities Director and Literacy Coach for the Southern Door County School District in Brussels, Wisconsin. Michelle also taught special education as well as general education classes for 30+ years.
McCall Hocking
McCall is the LOLA Arts Marketing Communications Coordinator. She is a former high school art teacher, an avid painter, and a mom of two kiddos under 5.
