Exploring Emotions

Exploring Our Emotions Through Art

Intuitive Painting & Creating with Katlyn Koester

Thursday, May 12, 2022

1 – 3 p.m.

$30

Registration date: Thursday, May 5th, 2022

In this class, students will be offered a safe space to explore their emotions through painting. This is for anyone interested in trying art, no previous skills are required as we may use the paints and watercolor pencils in nontraditional ways. Led by Katlyn Koester, from an artist’s perspective on dealing with a difficult health diagnosis through art, students will be led through a series of short sessions, using small sheets of paper, of visualizing and expressing emotions through intuitive art and mark making with watercolor paints and pencils, and journaling if the need arises. The class will conclude with one larger intuitive painting to explore the question of “What next?”.

Please note this class is not intended as a substitute for therapy sessions, merely one human with a passion for art, passing on knowledge discovered while on a self-care journey. Masks are required regardless of vaccination status

Exploring Emotions

Bio:

Katlyn Koester is a fiber artist, ceramicist, intuitive artist, and cat mama living in northern Wisconsin. She graduated from Viterbo University in 2010 with a BFA in Studio Art. Her art journey began at age twelve with the first piece of pottery she threw. Pottery was her main focus for nearly 18 years; she attended art shows and won 6 ribbons between 2012 and 2019.

In 2018, a Stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis and treatment led to a shift in mediums. After surgery, pottery was not an option physically and Koester leaned heavily on painting as her own personal therapy. Since then she has continued to use painting to work through difficult times and emotions and has since discovered an interest in helping others learn how to use art when dealing with emotional situations.
