FIND YOUR INNER POETIC PASSION
This art of poetry class is a 3-hour pursuit of developing your own poetic voice. Class participants will be provided with blank legal pads, a pen, and mentored by instructors to connect with the poetic form imaginatively and through individual senses.
Writing exercises will be included for small group and individual practice to help push past writer’s block and free creative conveyance of ideas and feelings. Class discussion will be centered on the analysis of words that are chosen in class, the process of writing, and reading selected poems to guide our discovery with one another and our own selves through particular and universal themes.
About the artist J.K. Roche: J.K. Roche is a local poet and writer from Presque Isle, WI. Judith’s primary occupation is writing and she is currently working on a novel set in the Northwoods in the 1950s. She began writing songs with an Alvarez guitar purchased from her first pay check in the United States Air Force at age 17. After her military service, Judith continued songwriting during college and while working as a high school and early childhood teacher. Many of her songs are about her daughters, family life, spiritual awareness, nature and observations on life’s bigger questions. During a period of convalescing, her songwriting evolved into poetry writing.
About the artist Mark Schermeister: Mark Schermeister has spent a majority part of his life in Land O’ Lakes for the past 64 years. He is an enthusiastic photographer, artist and poet who has been behind a camera in some capacity since 1966 as a darkroom technician, portrait and wedding photographer and has been published in numerous periodicals over the years.
He describes himself as having fifty-something years of experience and still a student. Mark is a retired air-traffic controller and can be found in the local region capturing the natural beauty of the area, forests, wildlife and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
