IMMERSE YOURSELF IN COLOR

The soft pastel medium is versatile, immediate and expressive, and it allows you to combine the best of drawing and painting. This class is for all levels, from anyone interested in learning about soft pastel for the first time, to more experienced artists who want to gain a greater understanding of the medium and its capabilities while cultivating artistic growth. The class will take an in-depth look at the variety of papers, application styles and techniques available to the pastel artist.

In addition to technical skill development, intermediate and advanced students will be encouraged to consider content, theme or emotion in their work. Working from both photographic references in the studio and directly from life (still life or plein air) you’ll complete thought-provoking exercises that provide greater understanding of the medium and its capabilities. Kay specializes in adapting to each participant’s personality and skill level and provides plenty of positive, encouraging one-on-one interaction, as well as frequent demonstrations. Useful handouts, specific pastel papers for the exercises and other materials will be provided. See supply list (link below) for other required supplies.
