Make organic dye & Learn Basic Shibori technique!
TWO PART CLASS – Monday, August 14, 2017 – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. AND Wednesday, August 16, 2017 – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Class is appropriate for adults and/or teens.
Cost $85 per person for the class, plus $12.00 materials fee. Materials fee is payable to instructor (cash or check) the day of class. Materials fee includes dye, all sewing notions, and fabric for bag.
Instructors Terry Simeone & Debbie Jircik will teach students how to make an organic indigo vat and then indigo dye using basic shibori techniques on session 1. In session 2, students will use dyed textiles to create a bento bag.
A bento bag is a small carry-all for lunches, groceries, produce, and many other items. They can be washed and used over and over again.
Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of ways to embellish textiles. Before dyeing, cloth is shaped and secured in various ways that produce patterns. The word comes from the verb root shiboru , “to wring, squeeze, or press.”
A sewing machine is needed. Students must know how to use their machine.
Supplies students need to bring:
- Your sewing machine for class session 2 on August 16.
- Bag lunch for both days
- Optional: Extra 100% white cotton fabric for additional dyeing during class session 1 on August 14.
