The mystery of double-walled baskets will be decoded in this two-day immersion into basketry workshop.   Double-walled baskets are exceptionally sturdy because they are essentially two baskets in one.

In this class, you’ll first, create the herringbone base in two colors in a 2/2 twill design.  Then, weave the inner wall of the basket using one set of spokes.  Next, use the inner basket as a mold to shape the second wall of the basket.  But good news!  Only one rim to lash! 

Overlays of dyed reed are used to create interest.  Top off the tote with your choice of triple twining using three different colors of round reed (hence the name “triple triple”).  Or add another row with a bit of a twist to create an eye-catching arrow. 

Several color choices will be available to combine with smoked accent reed and custom-made, coordinating leather handles. The instructor will contact you after registration to discuss your color preferences.

Instructor Bio:  Dianne Mockler is a basket weaver and fiber artist who began weaving in 1996 and soon after shared her enthusiasm for the craft by teaching others to weave. She enjoys working with a variety of materials, and is especially interested in weaving baskets with a Northwoods theme, or natural materials such as birch bark, willow, pine needles and antlers. Her great great grandfather owned a knitting mill in Milwaukee in the late 19th century; she believes she is honoring her heritage by incorporating wool and other fibers into baskets, as well as using wet felting and needle felting techniques to create basket embellishments.
