Birch Shrink Pot

Spend a day at LOLA making a “magical shrinking pot!” Artist Mark Hawkins will instruct students how to make a pot using sloyd knives and hook knives. The initial carving is done with a “green” or freshly cut piece of wood. After pot is carved or hollowed out and the bottom puck is placed the pot dries. The bottom puck is a dry piece of wood. As green wood pot dries, it shrinks around the puck. Students will have the supplies to make two pots; time – permitting. This class requires students with good hand strength. It is a class for beginners through advanced carvers. Advanced carvers will have the opportunity to make a cover for their pots as well. Depending upon their pace, students may also be able to remove the bark and embellish their pots. (see second photo)
This will be a day long class – students should bring a bag lunch.
